About the film.
Jan is an 8-year-old boy, who lives with his ill mother. He desires the life of a normal 8-year-old child – being able to be free and playful. His life, for the past year, has been anything but normal – with his mother’s illness shaping his life in a different way.
His mother sleeps for most of the day and requires assistance with daily activities such as making food or going up/down the stairs. Jan’s mother has become dependent on him, and without any prognosis or timeline of recovery, it seems that this is their life now.
Water follows the story of a young carer – without sensationalising any aspect of his day-to-day life. This is Jan’s normal, and the film makes sure to show it in that way. There is often a thought that a young carer is an assigned role, when in fact it can often come into play naturally. The film follows both Jan and his mother as they explore this newfound wrinkle in their relationship – how they are still adapting but keeping the faith.

A filmmaker, born and raised in the UK, with an ever-growing passion for cinema. Maz makes films about discovering the world, for children who never could.
His latest film, Water, is a proof-of-concept short film about the life of a young carer. Kicking off the slate for his new production company Outsider Pictures, founded with his long-term collaborator Keevy.

Graduate of American Film Institute, Willow is a visual storyteller whose poetic style sets a deeply evocative tone, blending emotion with sensitivity. Through bold cinematic imagery and immersive shot design, she crafts inspiring and memorable work that uncovers and evokes deep emotions.

Lyndon Ogbourne
A London -based production designer. He is a multifaceted talent working across a range of mediums including still life, video, art installations, stage design, events, and interiors. His work includes designing for Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, GQ, AJ Tracy, Bimini, Mimi Webb, Jax Jones, Lola Indigo, and Raye among others.

Keevy is a filmmaker born and raised in North Yorkshire with a passion for cinematic storytelling. Keevy strives to tell authentic stories with compassion and specificity at the heart of her projects.
Together with Maz, she has launched Outsider Pictures to tell those stories who are often forgotten.

Claudia Gerlach
Born and raised in Madrid, Spain, Claudia relocated to London to pursue filmmaking. Motivated by a passion for storytelling and connecting audiences to work that matters, she’s been working in independent cinema since graduating university.
Claudia has now joined the team at Outsider Pictures to support the production of “Water.”
